Free talk: Relieve Back Pain Through Better Movement – Any Body Can Learn!

Do you suffer from back pain?  Do you get tense and sore while sitting for longer periods of time?  Do you experience tightness and pain in your shoulders and neck?

Many times, pain and discomfort are symptoms of how we misuse our body in daily activities.  Your body is designed for efficient and easy movement, but tension and un-needed habits have been layered over this natural coordination.  Through increased awareness and kinaesthetic re-education, you can learn to change your patterns of movement to function well.

In this one-hour introductory talk and demonstration, learn basic ideas about your body’s natural design.  Learn how you can change long-standing habits to improve your health.  We will explore specific ideas about your back, including what you can do to prevent back troubles and improve your current state of being.  This event is led by Heather Walker, a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique.

Nanaimo Harbourfront Library:  March 13th, 2013, 6:30-7:30pm – FREE

Please note: a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique does not diagnose illness and does not prescribe medical treatment.  This is an educational event, designed to heighten your awareness and knowledge, which will empower you to change your habits.

“97% of people with back pain could benefit by learning the Alexander Technique – it is only a very small minority of back pain sufferers that require medical intervention such as surgery.”
Jack Stern, spinal neurosurgeon
