Heather Walker will be giving an introductory Alexander Technique workshop for the Wellington School senior music program in May 2026. Here is some information about the technique in relation to music, taken from the Alexander Technique Canada website:
Musicians, actors, dancers, and other artists have long recognized the benefits of applying Alexander Technique to their art form. Reducing excess tension in movement and posture, freeing up the breath, enhancing vocal production, reducing performance anxiety, and accessing a deeper, more anchored presence during performance are just a few reasons why artists are repeatedly drawn to the Technique.
Many prestigious learning institutions in Canada and around the world recognize the importance of Alexander Technique and have had Alexander teachers on staff, including the University of Toronto, McGill University, Royal Conservatory of Music, Globe Theatre, Guildhall School of Music and Drama (U.K.), Juilliard School (New York), Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh), Royal Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (U.K.), Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia), Manhattan School of Music (New York) and Yale University School of Drama (Connecticut).
Please contact Heather for more information about specialized workshops on the Alexander Technique throughout Vancouver Island.
