Talk on the Alexander Technique – Nanaimo Harbourfront Library

Are you struggling with tension patterns, postural problem, back pain, or stress in your life?

You have the abiltiy to learn how to release tension, have better posture and coordination, and move more fluidly and efficiently.   The Alexander Technique is taught internationally as an extraordinary tool to help re-learn movement patterns.  It  is not a medical treatment, but a technique that allows you to learn about your habits and be able to change them.

Come get a brief introduction to the Alexander Technique at the Nanaimo Harbourfront Library on Thursday, June 14th at 6:30pm.

Heather Walker is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, one of only 50 in Canada, who is now situated in Nanaimo.  She will give explanations, demonstrations, answer questions, and guide you to information and literature on the Alexander Technique.

 

Four week Alexander Technique course, VSO school

Principles of the Alexander Technique
(4 week course)
In this interactive class, students will explore the principles of the Alexander Technique and greatly expand their body awareness. Tools will be provided allowing participants to make better choices about how they use their body including how to evaluate balance, freedom and efficiency of movement. An individual one-hour private session with the instructor is included, allowing for an in-depth analysis of each student. Each course is limited to between 5 to 7 students

Wednesdays: 4:30 – 6:00pm, April 11, 18, 25 and May 2
Fee: $200 (+ $10 registration fee)

Alexander Technique Workshop for music educators, Nanaimo

Heather will be teaching the following workshop for a group of music educators on April 28, 2012.   This workshop can be specifically tailored for any group, and we will use the principles of the Alexander Technique in relation to the group’s activities.  This workshop is privately booked for “Music for Young Children” teachers.

Practical experiments will be used to learn how to notice tightening, release muscle tension, re-establish better balance and move more efficiently. Participants will explore techniques to gain body awareness, allowing them to move in a more free and enjoyable manner.   Each one-time class is 2 hours in length and is limited to between 8 and 12 students.

Vancouver Studio Closing….

After a wonderful few years teaching in central Vancouver, I am moving to Vancouver Island and focusing my Alexander Technique teaching in Nanaimo.  The Vancouver Studio is therefore closing at the end of March, 2012.  I will still be teaching Alexander Technique at the VSO School of Music, and giving workshops throughout the Fraser Valley by appointment.  A big thanks to all my students in Vancouver who I thoroughly enjoyed working with.  Come visit me in Nanaimo! – Heather Walker
